Why do there need to be policies and laws? What’s wrong with individuals of any age getting off their duffs and getting whether exercise they need?

Consider looking into the Silver Sneakers program under the YMCA, for one. Another source is the local Council on Aging program. There are numerous programs under elder services.

I asked my city to put benches in front of stores in our downtown shopping area because it was too far to walk from one bus stop to the next without sitting down.

They declined, saying it was the responsibility of the shops. The shops wouldn’t put out benches because they said the homeless slept on them at night.

Also, if it wasn’t for the Americans with Disabilities Act, many would not be able to walk downtown because we wouldn’t have low curb cuts, safe crossings at red lights or easy-on platforms to reach the bus steps. The Act also gave us ramps and much more accessibility to public areas.
