Who cares, that client will be happy to have any lawyer he can get. He is a prick so you deal with it by being totally professional the same way you would if he said you were too fat to represent him or he hates females or any other dumb thing. He is deliberately pushing your buttons to see if he can rattle you and the only way to let him know that doesn’t work is to ignore it completely. No reaction, flat affect, back to business without batting an eyelash.
Mr, hot pats ( insert his name here.) on behalf of Tic Tac & Toe company I will be happy to represent you as your legal adviser.
Before we begin however there are a few things I’d like to discuss with you regarding our business relationship. First you should know you have chosen the right firm.
As your Attorney I will always work in a professional manner with you as my client. We will be working closely for the next while .
I will be calling you from time to time to gain more information on your case,as well as having you come into my office to fill out papers etc…
We may have business luncheons and work late together including weekends , so I may gain more insight to your case, and to discuss where we are headed. IN NO WAY ( make sure your voice is heard when saying that) should you feel im intiating anything towards you . Its strickly business.
As I said im a professional at what I do. So I always like to tell my clients this before we begin so there is no miscommunication.
This way your stating it to him like you tell everyone this before you start. and he doesn’t feel rejected or alienated. And in the future if he falls off the wagon and trys to flirt with you again remind him of the rules that you follow when working on a clients case.
I hope that will help you.
flirting… ignore it… pretend it isn’t happening
any response is likely to bring more of the behavior (some men just like to see women react, even if it is in anger)
We women have to do this with male clients all the time!!!
If it is more than flirting (for example saying something suggestive) then simply point out:
1) I am your lawyer… not a potential date… I will treat you with the same professional respect that I give to every client
2) If I am to remain your lawyer, then I expect to be treated as a professional lawyer
3) If necessary, I will limit all of our communication to written form…. this is not in the best interest of your case, will slow down the work done on your case and otherwise impede the process
4) If you choose to behave in a manner that is unacceptable, then I will drop your case and you will have to start again with a new lawyer
