A lot of people can’t seem to comprehend the meaning of copyright.
It simply means if you made something, it’s yours. If someone else
made something, it’s theirs. (What could be simpler?)
As such, “EVERY SINGLE SONG IN THE WORLD” is copyrighted
and belongs to either the composer, the artist, the record company,
and/or whoever owns its publishing rights.
It’s “THEIR” music (even if you got it off iTunes), and they’ve got the
legal right to do whatever they want with “THEIR” music — including
1) not allowing you to use it or 2) getting paid for “distribution rights”,
“licence fees”, “royalties” and/or the “expressed written permission”
to use their music solely as per the contract terms signed between
your lawyer(s) and theirs. If you have not paid for any of those, then
you’re technically “stealing” from them.
Yes, there are a lot of songs on YouTube, perhaps even some your
friends uploaded — but everything actually depends on A) the music
label, B) the recording artist, C) what song is used, D) which songs
YouTube/Google have in their databases of copyrighted music, and
E) how determined the record label and/or artist is in defending and
protecting their copyright. Some don’t mind at all, while others have
actually been paid-off by YouTube/Google so that people could use
those songs.
Whatever nonsense that people write in their video descriptions has
actually “zero effect” on determining whether their video remains on
YouTube or gets muted/deleted. That’s because during “processing”,
the uploaded audio (and video) are digitally compared with the huge
databases of registered copyright music YouTube have. Remember:
YouTube = Google = the biggest & most powerful internet company
and website in the world.
