WHAT ARE THE COPYRIGHT LAWS, IF ANY REGARDING USING PICTURES FROM THE INTERNET AND POSTING THEM ON YOUR SITE?

I wish to put pics I find upon the internet of celebrities as well as pro athletes upon my website,is which authorised or have been there any copyright laws which I need to be wakeful of ?

I would similar to to use pics from, Google Images, Flickr, Photobucket as well as alternative website which might have photos I like.

In general, on the Internet, you have only an implied license to download a single copy of legally posted materials for your own personal use.

You do NOT have a license to make additional copies, let alone publish (upload) copies of works made by other people, unless (a) the works are of the US government, (b) the works are so old that their copyright has expired, (c) you have a license from the copyright owner, or (d) you can claim one or more “exemptions” from the copyright laws (such as reporting the news and making reference to a small excerpt of a literary work).

Nearly everything on the Internet published since 1989 was automatically copyrighted the moment it was created. Things prior to that would only be copyrighted if the authors followed the necessary formalities (registration, notice, renewals), depending upon the type of work and when it was first published in the USA.

Things copyrighted after, say, 1963 have a duration of 70 years after the death of the author.
